Benefits of Vitamin A:

  • Protects eye health
  • Provides immune support and fights inflammation
  • Supports skin health and cell growth
  • Plays an important role in building strong bones

Swanson Vitamin A softgels offer you the cost effective way to keep your eyes and immune system healthy and nourished. Prepared from a natural fish-oil source, this supplement is clinically designed to provide you numerous skin, eye and immune system benefits. The product comes in easy-to-swallow softgels that are readily absorbed by the digestive tract.

Swanson Vitamin A softgels is a dietary supplement that comes from a natural source -fish oil. The product is designed to meet the demands of the busy individual because the formulation comes in an easy-to-swallow pill. Also, the softgels are readily absorbed by the digestive tract. Taking the required daily allowance of Vitamin A nourishes the skin, eyes and the immune system.

Getting the required Vitamin A nutrients is becoming a challenge in today’s era. Burgers, fries, canned-goods littered with preservatives with high sodium and other “fast-food” type of food have mushroomed in Singapore, replacing the traditional cooked food on the table. Constantly eating the food from the fast-food chain deprives the body of Vitamin A nutrient, affecting the skin, eyesight, and the immune system.

There are two types of Vitamin A. The first source comes from the animals called the retinoid, and the second source comes from plants for beta-carotene. Eggs, liver, whole milk and fortified skim milk and cereals contain high retinoid while spinach, carrots, and apricots have high beta-carotene content. Unfortunately, not all individuals can eat a balanced diet, enough fresh fruits, and vegetables to satisfy the needed Vitamin A requirement for the body.

The Recommended Daily Allowance of Vitamin A According to Age group

The recommended daily allowance for Vitamin A, both of food and supplement various across all age-group, children need at least 300 mcg daily; adult men and women need 900 mcg and 700 mcg daily respectively. Pregnant women and lactating mothers need a higher RDA –they need at least 750 mcg for 14-18 years-old pregnant women and 770 mcg for 19 years old and above. Lactating or breastfeeding mothers need 1300 mcg daily for 19 years old and above and 1200 mcg for less than 18 years old.

Vitamin A Deficiency

Ultimately, according to the World Health Organization’s (WHO) report, when the body failed to get the needed Vitamin A nourishment children at high risk for visual impairment or blindness, prone to severe illness and even death. Further, men and women who are deficient in Vitamin A are at high risk for keratomalacia – an eye disorder that usually affects both eyes. The presenting symptoms are poor vision at night or in low light and eye dryness.

Conversely, when the body receives the right amount of Vitamin A it helps strengthen the immune system because of its anti-oxidant properties. It also provides healthy vision; it lowers the risk of the cataract formation and lowers the risk of night blindness during pregnancy. For the skin conditions, like acne, psoriasis, cold sores, sunburns and Vitamin A is used as one of the adjunct remedies for the skin problem.

About Vitamin A

Fruits and veggies have been replaced by chips and burgers, and whole milk by carbonated drinks. In today’s fast food culture, most of us are not meeting the required amount of Vitamin A, and therefore, supplements are needed to fulfil the recommended daily requirements.

Vitamin A is an important catalyst that helps in a variety of biochemical reactions. Due to its anti-oxidant properties, it supports healthy respiratory system and immune mechanism. It plays a vital role in reproduction, promoting full-term pregnancy and normal development of body parts such as eyes, noses and lips. According to a Norwegian Study published in American Journal of Epidemiology, infants born to women who consumed the most vitamin A were half as likely to develop cleft palate as compared to children whose mother were consuming less amount of this essential vitamin. Mothers consuming carrots (rich source of vitamin A) after delivery adds quality to the breast milk. It also helps in faster recovery after post-partum haemorrhage.

 Other benefits-

Vitamin A plays an important role in remodelling bone and keeping the mucous membrane (the inner lining of respiratory and digestive tract) healthy. Due to its high antioxidant content (carotenoids), the vitamin may reduce the risk of heart diseases. It increases vigor and vitality in the body, especially with regards to sexual potency. The carotenoids in vitamin A aid in treating a wide range of skin conditions, such as acne, wounds, sunburn, cold sores, psoriasis and many more.

Deficiency of vitamin A increases the risk of certain diseases such as measles, HIV, malaria and diarrhea. Supplementation with Vitamin A helps in slowing down the progression of macular degeneration, hastening the process of healing after laser eye surgery, and reducing the risk of certain other diseases.

Naturally, vitamin A can be obtained from eggs, fruits, whole milk, vegetables, meat and oily saltwater fish.
